Recommendations from the Support Fund's Management Committee to Ensure its Survival

Published January 13, 2026, 20:16

In the wake of the First Lady's resignation and discussions about the potential abolition of the Social Support Fund, the management committee proposes the completion of current scholarship applications for the 2025-2026 academic year. Additionally, it suggests ensuring the use of reserves for eligible students and finding a solution to avoid interrupting support for students. The committee will submit proposals for the continuation of the Fund's social work, taking into account expressed concerns. Simultaneously, it is proposed to publicly disclose the names of donors contributing over €20,000, with their consent, otherwise the contribution will not be accepted. The Fund's revenues have increased significantly in recent years, from €475,000 in 2015 to over €2 million in 2023 and 2024. The Audit Office has highlighted peculiar relationships between the Fund and companies with financial activity with the state.
