Spain Train Derailment: At Least 21 Dead, 30 Seriously Injured

A serious train accident occurred in Córdoba, Spain, resulting in the deaths of at least 21 people and injuries to 100, 30 of whom are in critical condition. The accident happened when two high-speed trains, one traveling from Malaga to Madrid and another from Madrid to Huelva, derailed after a collision. According to initial reports, the train from Malaga derailed approximately 10 minutes after departure and struck two carriages of the train on a parallel track heading to Huelva. The collision caused both trains to derail. The Spanish Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, described the accident as “terrible” and warned of the possibility of an increase in the death toll. Rescue teams and emergency services rushed to the scene to free passengers. Footage from the accident site shows the derailed trains, a large crowd, and ambulances. Passengers who were not seriously injured were forced to exit the carriages through the roofs or by breaking windows with emergency hammers. Passenger testimonies describe a violent collision that felt like an earthquake. Authorities have not yet clarified the cause of the accident, but an investigation is underway to shed light on all aspects. A total of 317 people were on board the two trains. Two of the fatalities were on the train to Madrid and three (including the driver) were on the train to Huelva.
