AKEL Secretary-General Accuses Government of Failing Socially and Criticizes President's Claims on Corruption

AKEL's Secretary-General, Stefanos Stefanou, in an interview with the Morning Edition of ASTRA, emphasized that the party is in constant contact with the people and promotes the needs of society in Parliament. He recalled the party's extensive tour of Cyprus in recent years and the submission of legislative proposals to address social problems. Mr. Stefanou criticized the government for its social policy, which he described as inadequate. He highlighted the differences between AKEL and DISY on important issues, such as the taxation of banks, the protection of borrowers, and the reduction of electricity prices. He argued that AKEL consistently stands on the side of workers and ordinary people, while DISY serves large interests, especially banking interests. Mr. Stefanou called on the public to evaluate the parties based on their actions and not to be influenced by the anger and frustration they are experiencing. He stressed that AKEL is consistent with its values and principles and that it always defends the interests of society. Furthermore, Mr. Stefanou criticized the President of the Republic for claiming to be proud of fighting corruption, while at the same time there is evidence of institutional collusion and the serving of interests.
