Auditor General: Project Management Mechanism to be Promoted

The Auditor General Andreas Antoniadis informed the Parliamentary Control Committee about the establishment of a project management mechanism, which will be submitted for consultation to the Ministries of Finance and Transport, as well as the Deputy Ministry of Research and Innovation. The discussion concerned improvements in the procedures for tendering and implementing public contracts. The Audit Office's audit in 2023 concerned the supply and installation of non-military protection systems for critical infrastructure from unmanned aerial vehicles. Poor planning and monitoring of the project were found, resulting in losses in administrative costs and labor hours, while the need for the system remains unmet. Antoniadis stated that the name of the unsuccessful bidder has been registered in the register of exclusion from public contracts. In addition, 45 professional procurement officers have been certified after two years of training and their use in public procurement procedures is recommended. The Police will participate in the second cycle of training from 2026. The Auditor General stressed the importance of improving procedures and enhancing transparency in public contracts.
