General Accounting Office: Immediate Financial Benefit for Taxpayers from Reform

The tax reform that came into effect on January 1, 2026, brings an immediate financial benefit to taxpayers through the revision of tax brackets, announced the General Accounting Office of the Republic. This change will be automatically reflected in the January 2026 payroll. However, the GAO clarifies that those with a taxable income of over €22,000 who wish to fully benefit from additional personal deductions, allowances or tax relief should carefully study the Explanatory Tax Guide and complete the appropriate form. For state officials/employees, it is required to complete the Declaration of Claim for Tax Deductions for State Officials and Employees and submit it to the designated email address. A similar process is provided for retired state officials and employees, as well as hourly government personnel, with different forms for each category. The GAO emphasizes that those not affected by the additional tax deductions do not need to submit a declaration. The registration of data in the computerized system will begin in February 2026, in order of priority. For more information, interested parties can contact the Tax Department.
