The Republic of Cyprus responded with a careful and balanced approach to President Trump's invitation to join a Peace Council, according to Foreign Minister Konstantinos Kombos. Cyprus expresses gratitude for the invitation, considering it significant to be included in the select group. The President of the Republic will be unable to attend the signing of the accession act in Davos due to prior commitments. Mr. Kombos emphasized Cyprus's support for any peace initiative that complies with international law and the UN Charter. He expressed particular satisfaction with the agreement reached in Gaza with President Trump's participation and the transition to the second phase of the peace process. The Republic of Cyprus is approaching the Gaza-related aspect of the Peace Council positively, given the relevant resolution at the UN Security Council. At the same time, it is carefully considering broader participation in the Council, taking into account Cyprus's role as President of the EU Council. In this context, Cyprus awaits the formation of a common position by the European Union, which is still under development. Mr. Kombos stated that communication with the US side was constructive and Cyprus's position was accepted with understanding. He considered it positive that Cyprus was not excluded from the process, indicating an upgrade of its role on the international stage.
