Creating an Inclusive Workplace for Individuals with ADHD

The Minister of Labour and Social Insurance, Marinos Mousiouttas, highlighted the importance of creating an inclusive work environment for individuals with ADHD during a conference organized by the Ministry of Labour and the Cyprus ADHD Support Association. Inclusion, he stated, is a fundamental obligation of the state and a developmental advantage for businesses. The Minister referred to the Ministry's plans and actions to support the employment of people with chronic illnesses, including ADHD, and reiterated the commitment to an accessible and supportive environment. He emphasized the need to address stereotypes and provide adequate adjustments in the workplace. The President of the Cyprus ADHD Association, Marina Georgiou, stressed the need to understand ADHD as a different way of functioning, not a limitation of ability, emphasizing the importance of information and utilizing the potential of people with ADHD. Furthermore, Psychiatrist Petros Antoniou presented a scientific analysis of ADHD in the workplace, focusing on understanding the disorder, reasonable accommodations, and the role of employers in creating inclusive environments. He emphasized the need for businesses to genuinely intend to integrate and hire neurodiverse individuals. Finally, the Subsidized Employment Schemes for people with Chronic Illnesses and Disabilities were presented, with a maximum grant amount of €24,000 per person, aiming to encourage employers to hire people from these groups.
