Public Holiday on Saturday: What Applies to Supermarkets and the Private Sector

Supermarkets will remain open on Saturday, January 17th, the day of the funeral of the former President of the Republic, Giorgos Vassiliou, despite being declared a public holiday. According to Andreas Hadjiadamou, Executive Secretary of the Pan-Cypriot Supermarkets Association, the private sector will operate as normal, including supermarkets. Employees will be compensated according to existing legislation for work on Saturdays and Sundays. The funeral will be held with the honors of an active President of the Republic.
