A complex rescue operation was successfully completed on Mount Taygetus, freeing eight mountaineers who were trapped in a remote area near the Prophet Elias peak. The operation lasted eight hours and was particularly challenging due to adverse weather conditions and steep terrain. Two mountaineers were injured and transported to Sparta Hospital, while the other six are in good condition. According to reports, the accident occurred when one mountaineer slipped, and, because they were roped together, the entire group was dragged down a steep slope, falling for at least 200 meters. An initial attempt at air rescue was unsuccessful due to strong winds. A total of 89 firefighters from various units participated in the operation. The Fire Department had been alerted earlier about the need to rescue the team.
