Facilitation of Cypriot natural gas transfer to Egypt. Amendment of 'Cronus' clause

The clause for channeling 20% of natural gas production from the 'Cronus' field to Egypt is being amended, according to government sources. This modification will facilitate the transfer of Cypriot natural gas to Egypt. This information emerged after a meeting between the President of the Republic and the Egyptian Minister of Petroleum, Karim Badawi, who was in Nicosia for the Cypriot Presidency of the EU Council. Optimism was expressed that the problems concerning Block 12 will be overcome soon and production from the 'Aphrodite' field will proceed. The agreement and Memorandum of Understanding signed in Cairo in 2025 are milestones for the exploitation of the deposits and the further development of cooperation between Cyprus and Egypt. The agreement concerns the development of hydrocarbons in Block 6 and defines the framework for cooperation between the ENI/TOTAL consortium and Egypt.
