EU: Relations with the US Will Never Be the Same

European leaders are acknowledging a new era in EU-US relations following the withdrawal of Donald Trump's threats to impose tariffs, particularly regarding Greenland. Although the crisis was averted, discussions in Brussels revealed a change in atmosphere and a recognition that transatlantic relations will no longer be as they were before. The head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, stated that the EU has learned that relations with the US have changed. European officials agree that a more decisive and clear response is needed to similar challenges in the future, as demonstrated in the case of the Greenland crisis. The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, emphasized the importance of dialogue with the US, but with clear red lines. In the event of new tariff threats, the EU will respond with trade countermeasures. At the same time, the EU is seeking to stabilize trade relations with the US. Concern is growing regarding Trump's “Peace Council,” which aims to replace the UN, currently involving only two member states (Hungary and Bulgaria). There are doubts about its scope and compatibility with the UN Charter, with several countries refusing to participate. Regarding the Mercosur trade agreement, the decision on its provisional implementation remains uncertain.
