Devastating Storms Hit Attica: Two Dead, Hundreds Rescued

Attica was hit by a severe storm that caused two deaths, a woman in Ano Glyfada and a port official in Astros Kynouria. The Fire Department received over 450 calls for water pumping, rescues, and tree cutting, mainly in Glyfada, Voula, Varis and Vouliagmeni. In Ano Glyfada, the woman was swept away by floodwaters and trapped under a car, while two people were rescued from a car swept away by a stream. The images from areas such as Ano Glyfada and Vari were shocking, with roads turning into raging rivers. Citizens offered help to each other to avoid danger. In Vari, rescue attempts of a woman from the floodwaters were recorded. Landslides occurred in Oropos, while the storm caused problems with the Electric Railway and Tram traffic. The intensity of the phenomena was such that the Fire Department expects an increase in calls. The authorities have been mobilized to deal with the consequences of the storm and provide assistance to those affected. The situation remains difficult and requires caution and preparedness from citizens.
