Protocols for providing education to children hospitalized in Cyprus or abroad, or unable to attend school due to medical reasons, are expected to be implemented from the next school year. The Parliamentary Committee on Education expressed its satisfaction with this development, which followed discussions and proposals regarding the difficulties these children face in accessing education. The protocols will include home education, tele-education, and other tools to support students. The Chairman of the Committee, Pavlos Mylonas, emphasized that the Ministry of Education responded to the Committee's and associations' proposals, and that the protocols will ensure that no child is deprived of education due to illness. The discussion began after reports of problems faced by children in the Pediatric Oncology Department of Makarios Hospital, as well as children with other chronic or psychiatric conditions. A significant role in implementing the protocols will be played by the Cyprus Oncology Center and health services, providing psychological support to children and their families. In addition, training for teachers will be required to meet the specific needs of these students. MP Giorgos Karoullas of DISY welcomed the Ministry of Education's announcement and expressed hope that the new system would be operational by next September, giving hospitalized children the opportunity to continue their education. The state has a duty to provide equal opportunities to all children, regardless of their health status.
