Greece: Civil Aviation Authority Chief Resigns After Athens FIR Blackout

The head of the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA), George Saounatsos, has resigned following the report into the recent 'blackout' at the Athens FIR. His resignation was accepted by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Staikos, and the Deputy Commander of Air Navigation, George Vagenas, will temporarily assume the duties of commander. The incident is attributed to 'digital noise' due to system desynchronization, while the report states that there was no risk to air safety. Minister Staikos has announced a search for responsibilities and an upgrade of the systems.
