An increase in cases of seasonal infections, such as influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), is being observed at Makarios Hospital, but the Pediatric Clinic is not overcrowded. Dr. Elena Papamichael, Director of the Clinic, told the Cyprus News Agency that a further increase is expected in the coming days due to seasonality. Currently, one child is hospitalized with RSV, and four children are recovering from influenza A and other comorbidities. No coronavirus cases have been hospitalized in recent days. Dr. Papamichael stressed that the hospital is on full alert and the Intensive Care Units are ready to manage more serious cases. There is cooperation with other hospitals of the OKYPY in case of a large influx of cases. The numbers are similar to last year's period, but there is a possibility of an increase in the coming days. Dr. Papamichael advised parents to follow the instructions of pediatricians, avoid crowding when there are infections in the environment, ventilate spaces well, and observe personal hygiene rules.
