Seven Deaths from Flu, Increased Pressure on Hospitals - Emergency Meeting at Ministry of Health

Greece is experiencing a surge in flu cases, with seven deaths reported among patients since the start of the epidemic season. Most of the deceased were elderly individuals with underlying health conditions. A total of 98 people have been hospitalized due to the flu, with 85 in public and 13 in private hospitals. The Ministry of Health held an emergency meeting with representatives from the public and private sectors to coordinate efforts to address the situation and manage the increased pressure on hospitals. Dr. Elisavet Konstantinou, Deputy General Director of the Ministry of Health, stated that the healthcare system is adequately prepared and that vaccination is a key pillar of prevention. However, she emphasized the importance of adhering to personal protection measures, such as good hygiene and wearing masks in enclosed spaces. The meeting at the Ministry of Health focused on managing patients requiring hospitalization, with an emphasis on collaboration between the public and private sectors. The goal is to provide the best possible response to the increased demand for beds and ensure access to appropriate care for all patients. The Ministry of Health urges citizens, especially vulnerable groups, to be particularly careful and follow protective measures to limit the spread of the flu and protect their health.
