The Archbishop of Cyprus, George, has reviewed the year for the Church of Cyprus, identifying a “sick zeal” attempting to infiltrate the Church as the biggest challenge. This led to the deposition of the Metropolitan of Paphos and the defrocking of the priest who ordained him. The Archbishop also addressed attempts to mislead believers regarding miracles, particularly at the Holy Monastery of Saint Avvakum, where dismissals occurred. Positively, he highlighted the plan to address declining birth rates, which has already begun to yield results. Furthermore, he commented on issues such as euthanasia, cremation, and artificial intelligence, emphasizing the need for human reason and caution. Finally, he proposed the idea of the Holy Synod electing Metropolitans and Bishops, while the election of the Archbishop remains under the control of the people.
