Sweden to Spend $440 Million on Unmanned Systems

Sweden announced that it will spend $440 million on unmanned military systems over the next two years. This investment includes the purchase of long-range offensive drones, electronic warfare systems, reconnaissance drones, as well as drones for maritime surveillance and mine clearance. Swedish Defense Minister Pal Jonson stated that the future battlefield will be characterized by unmanned systems and long-range capabilities. The decision to increase military spending and invest in new technology, such as drones, comes following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Sweden, as a member of the European Union and NATO, seeks to strengthen its defense and adapt to new geopolitical challenges. In addition, the Swedish government will invest 1.3 billion kronor in new military satellites. The overall investment in military equipment and technology aims to shield the armed forces with air defense systems, ships and submarines.
