The Secretary-General of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou, spoke at the Pan-Cypriot excursion of EDON in Troodos, reiterating the goal of reunifying Cyprus without occupation, foreign bases, or troops. He emphasized the need to break the deadlock in the Cyprus issue and continue negotiations from where they left off in 2017, utilizing the Guterres framework and the negotiating acquis. Mr. Stefanou accused imperialism of using Cyprus for its own interests, citing its use for Israel's interests in Gaza and its exposure to the appetites of foreign powers due to the presence of British bases. Simultaneously, the Secretary-General of EDON, Sevieros Koulas, stressed that maintaining the status quo in the Cyprus issue is a dangerous dynamic that produces new faits accomplis to the detriment of Cypriots and reaffirmed EDON's commitment to a bicommunal, bizonal federation solution.
