Gamekeeper Hospitalized After Inhaling Disinfectant – Veterinary Services Highlight Precautions

A gamekeeper was hospitalized after inhaling disinfectant used to combat foot-and-mouth disease during spraying operations. The Veterinary Services emphasize that they provide the necessary protective equipment and have issued clear instructions for the use of disinfectants, while conducting checks to ensure proper procedures are followed. Payments to farmers affected by foot-and-mouth disease continue, as do sampling, tracing, and epidemiological investigations. Animal culling is completed within 48 hours of detecting cases. The Veterinary Services report that the first affected farmers have received advance payments for lost income, and payments are ongoing. The process is monitored by a Special Advisory Committee, with the participation of agricultural organizations and representatives of farmers. Information on payments is available on the website footandmouth.gov.cy. The Veterinary Services state that the health of workers is a top priority and measures will be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
