Renowned Cypriot Painter and Writer Andreas Karagian Dies

The renowned Cypriot painter and writer Andreas Karagian has passed away, a significant figure in modern Cypriot art. Karagian was born in Nicosia in 1943 and studied Medicine, which he later abandoned to pursue his artistic career in London and Berlin. He held his first solo exhibition in 1978 and represented Cyprus at the Venice and Cairo Biennales. He also worked as a journalist and film and theater critic. He illustrated poems by Constantine P. Cavafy and created works for the Library of Alexandria. Until the end of his life, he remained active and creative, dividing his time between Nicosia, Alexandria and Athens. His loss leaves a great void in the cultural world of Cyprus.
