Cyprus Takes the Helm of the EU

Cyprus begins its Presidency of the Council of the European Union on January 1, 2026, aiming to promote a Europe that is strong, stable, secure, and autonomous. The Presidency's agenda includes critical issues such as the Multiannual Financial Framework, the Ukrainian situation, migration, energy, competitiveness, defense, and security. President Christodoulides pledged honest mediation and strengthening Europe's defense and security, including maritime security. Approximately 260 meetings are scheduled, including three Summit meetings and 19 informal Council meetings.
