Cyprus and Bahrain Reaffirm Commitment to Strengthen Relations

The official visit of the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, to Bahrain reaffirms Cyprus's commitment to strengthening relations with Gulf countries, stated Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis. The visit takes place at a particularly important time, as Cyprus holds the Presidency of the Council of the EU and Bahrain the Presidency of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and is a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. Mr. Letymbiotis emphasized that the visit is of strategic importance at bilateral, regional, and international levels. Cyprus and Bahrain share common perceptions of their role on the international stage, as small island states in a complex geopolitical environment, and pursue active diplomacy to promote security and stability. During the visit, agreements and memoranda of understanding were signed to strengthen the institutional framework of bilateral cooperation. A Joint Action Plan was also agreed upon to deepen cooperation in various fields, including political, economic, energy, and educational sectors. The government reaffirms its commitment to further developing relations with Bahrain, as well as upgrading the EU's relations with the countries of the Middle East and the Gulf. The establishment of a Cypriot Embassy in Manama at the end of 2023 is a significant step in this direction.
