Locked Away from the World

The narrator describes his isolation in a suburb, where he moved during the pandemic and continues to work remotely. He observes his neighbors, mostly Cypriot workers and retirees, with a critical eye, describing them as “zombies” living a routine of work-home without social interaction. The narrator expresses hostility towards his neighbors, accusing them of a lack of interest in the world around them and excessive preoccupation with their pets and gardens. At the same time, he seems to fail to recognize his own contribution to the isolation, as he makes no effort to communicate with his neighbors.
