Police Union Leader 'Shocked' by New Work Schedule, Threatens Legal Action

Nikos Loizidis, president of the Police Branch of the ISOTITA trade union, expressed deep dissatisfaction with the change in the work schedule and employment status of police officers, describing it as "mathematically and substantially wrong, unfair and legally precarious." He argued that the total working hours of police officers remain the same, but rest days are reduced by fifteen, which is causing concern. Mr. Loizidis accused the Chief of Police of refusing to discuss and personally suspend the decision. At the same time, he rejected the Chief's claims that previous leaderships did not fully implement the legislation, emphasizing that previous Chiefs, such as Kypros Michailidis and Stelios Papatheodorou, faithfully implemented the law. The union has appealed to the Administrative Court, as it believes the decision violates the provisions of the Police Law. According to Mr. Loizidis, the correct procedure would have been to issue regulations rather than make a unilateral decision. He also expressed the view that the change in the employment status is not aimed at increasing productivity, but at cutting rest days.
