EDON Rally in Troodos Calls for Cyprus Reunification

EDON held its annual pan-Cypriot excursion in Troodos, with the central message being the reunification of Cyprus through a Bi-communal, Bi-zonal Federation. EDON's General Secretary, Severos Koulas, emphasized the importance of the excursion as an institution with a long history and as a collective political act, highlighting the massive participation of young people and Turkish Cypriots. Mr. Koulas also referred to the dangerous geopolitical situation, with the intensification of rivalries and the return of imperialism, warning of the risks involved in Cyprus's involvement in such plans, especially through British bases. He stressed that maintaining the status quo in the Cyprus issue constitutes a worsening of the situation, not stagnation. Despite the socio-economic difficulties faced by the new generation, such as high prices and job insecurity, EDON believes that the solution to the Cyprus problem is essential for peace, security and social progress. The organization reaffirmed its commitment to the solution of a Bi-communal, Bi-zonal Federation, as defined by UN resolutions. Finally, EDON condemns nationalism and chauvinism from both communities, calling on the new generation to fight for a reunited, peaceful and common homeland. Simultaneously, a protest march against British bases took place in Troodos.
