Cyprus Gymnasium Honors Archbishop Makarios III

The Apostle Paul Gymnasium in Paphos honored the memory of Archbishop Makarios III with a special tribute for students, marking 49 years since his death. The event included a screening of audiovisual material and a photo exhibition, presenting the life and work of the national leader. Students had the opportunity to learn in depth about Makarios' personality and his enduring contribution to Cyprus. The event highlighted Makarios' role in the independence of Cyprus and his struggle against partition. The school's announcement states that Makarios was an obstacle to Turkish occupation plans and became a target of the 1974 coup. His life was inextricably linked to the hopes and aspirations of the people for freedom and justice. The school calls on everyone to follow in Makarios' footsteps and continue the struggle for a just solution to the Cyprus issue, which will guarantee the sovereignty, human rights and European principles of the Republic of Cyprus. Makarios remains, according to the announcement, a "beacon of light" for future generations.
