President of Cyprus Eulogizes George Vasiliou as a Prominent and Beneficial Figure

The President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, delivered a eulogy for George Vasiliou, describing him as a prominent, virtuous, and beneficial individual with a cosmopolitan spirit and steadfast beliefs. President Christodoulides emphasized Vasiliou's long and eventful journey, which began in Famagusta and led him to many countries, shaping his character as an economist, technocrat, and politician. According to the President, Vasiliou always prioritized the simple and everyday needs of people, regardless of their origin or beliefs. His ability to think quickly and understand situations helped him to pioneer and implement significant reforms. The resolution of the Cyprus issue and the reunification of the island were Vasiliou's top priorities, a goal he unfortunately did not live to see realized. President Christodoulides acknowledged Vasiliou's enormous contribution to the modernization of the state through reforms such as tax transformation, changes in public administration, and the establishment of the first public university. The eulogy highlighted George Vasiliou as a leader who strived to create a society where every citizen could express themselves freely, without fear or anxiety. His legacy, according to President Christodoulides, will continue to inspire and guide future generations of Cypriots.
