US Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, will face criminal charges in a New York court. The charges include conspiracy to commit narco-terrorism, conspiracy to import cocaine, possession of firearms and destructive devices. President Trump stated that the United States had arrested Maduro and his wife and transported them out of the country, describing the operation as a 'large-scale blow' against Venezuela. The operation was carried out by commandos from Delta Force, the US military's elite special operations unit. Republican Senator Mike Lee reported that Secretary of State Marco Rubio informed him of Maduro's arrest and the prosecution in the US. Rubio predicted that there would be no further military action in Venezuela now that Maduro is in US custody. Venezuela has requested an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council following the US military attack. Venezuelan Foreign Minister Iván Gil described the attack as 'criminal' and accused the US government.
