Trump Thanks Iran for Cancelling 'All Scheduled Executions'

Donald Trump 'thanked' the Iranian government today for cancelling 'all scheduled executions by hanging' of protesters, after threatening Tehran with 'serious consequences' if the crackdown continued. “I respect very much that all the planned executions by hanging, which were to take place yesterday (more than 800), were called off by the leaders of Iran. Thank you!” the US president wrote on his Truth Social platform. “That had a big impact,” he said later in a conversation with reporters at the White House. At least 1,500 people sentenced to death were executed in Iran in 2025, according to a report by the NGO Iran Human Rights (IHR), which noted that this was the highest number of executions in a year the organization has recorded in the last 35 years. “Nobody convinced me. I convinced myself,” Donald Trump also replied to a journalist who asked him if officials from Arab countries and Israel had dissuaded him from carrying out strikes against Iran.
