Cyprus Criticizes UN Secretary-General's Reports as Unconvincing

The Cypriot Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed strong disappointment with the reports of the UN Secretary-General regarding UNFICYP and his Good Offices. Cyprus believes the UN is demonstrating a policy of equal distances that borders on diplomatic silence, equating the aggressor with the victim and legality with the illegality of the occupation. Nicosia points out that the UN Secretary-General avoids condemning Turkish violations in the buffer zone and recognizing Turkey's claim for a two-state solution as the main cause of the deadlock. It feels the UN is comfortable maintaining the status quo and a solution to the Cyprus problem remains a distant vision.
