US armed forces launched an air strike against a speedboat in the eastern Pacific allegedly involved in drug trafficking. Two people were killed and one survived in the attack. SOUTHCOM announced that intelligence confirmed the vessel's participation in illegal activities. This is the first known operation of its kind this year, as part of a broader US campaign against drug cartels. Since September, the US has carried out approximately 30 attacks against vessels allegedly involved in drug trafficking, resulting in more than 110 deaths. The legality of these attacks is being questioned by experts, and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has called for an investigation into the matter, expressing concerns about possible extrajudicial executions. Washington has not yet presented evidence of the vessels that were hit being involved in illegal activities.
