Journalist Spyros Karatzasferis Passes Away

Journalist Spyros Karatzasferis passed away on Thursday night at the age of 88. The news was confirmed by his brother, Giorgos Karatzasferis, former president of LAOS, who expressed his deep sorrow over the loss. Spyros Karatzasferis was born in Arcadia and began his journalism career in 1959 at the 'Vradyni' newspaper, covering crime reporting. He distinguished himself particularly in political reporting and investigative journalism, working for newspapers such as 'Ethnos', 'Apogevmatini', and 'Eleftherotypia'. At 'Eleftherotypia', he managed to reveal secret state plans and documents from the Armed Forces, causing reactions and legal disputes. After leaving 'Eleftherotypia' in 1988, he collaborated with Socrates Kokkalis in the publication of the 'Epikairotita' newspaper, where he served as director and editor-in-chief. The newspaper supported Andreas Papandreou during the Special Court. Karatzasferis caused a sensation with his publications against the then President of the Supreme Court, Vassilios Kokkinos, leading to a conviction and ultimately his flight to Cyprus, where he continued his journalistic work through radio broadcasts. He also published the weekly newspaper '48 Hours'.
