Pakistan: At Least 50 Dead Due to Fire in Shopping Mall

The death toll from the fire that broke out in a shopping mall in Karachi, Pakistan, has reached at least 50, as the remains of about 25 people were recovered today. The fire, the deadliest in the city in over a decade, started on Saturday and quickly spread through the Gul Plaza, a shopping mall known for its 1,200 stores selling wedding items, toys, and household goods. Authorities expect the death toll to rise, as it is unlikely that any survivors will be found. The fire is the worst in Karachi since 2012, when an industrial facility was destroyed by fire resulting in the deaths of more than 260 people.
