A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6 struck Peru on Saturday night, resulting in at least 25 injuries. The epicenter of the quake was located offshore near the city of Chimbote, in the Ancash region, north of Lima. Authorities report that 12 people are hospitalized, while 13 have been discharged. In Chimbote, the general hospital, schools, and homes sustained damage, as shown in videos circulating on social media. These images depict buildings with cracks and goods scattered across store floors. Peru is situated in a highly seismic zone, known as the Pacific Ring of Fire. It is recalled that in 1970, a devastating earthquake in Peru caused the death of 67,000 people.
