Cyprus Electricity Authority Addresses Cable Insulation After Bird Deaths and Fires

The Cyprus Electricity Authority (EAC) is proceeding with the insulation of medium and low voltage cables, following frequent incidents of bird deaths and fires caused by them. Approximately 17 km of medium voltage cables have already been replaced or undergrounded, while 25.5 km of bare low voltage conductors have been replaced. The process is facing delays, especially in forested and protected areas, due to bureaucracy and restrictions related to the nesting season. The EAC is cooperating with Birdlife to implement bird protection measures and improve network safety. The procurement of higher quality materials is underway.
