Greenland's Prime Minister: Dialogue and Diplomacy are 'the Right Way'

The Prime Minister of Greenland, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, emphasized the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving the issue of Greenland, following a meeting at the White House. The meeting took place amid increased US interest in gaining control of the island. Nielsen stated that dialogue and diplomacy are “the right way” even when the stakes are high and the pressure is felt. He welcomed the start of the dialogue after a meeting between the Foreign Ministers of Denmark and Greenland with US Vice President Jay Dee Vance and Foreign Minister Marco Rubio, despite the “fundamental differences” reported. The statement from Nielsen comes in response to President Trump's desire to gain control of Greenland, which remains under Danish sovereignty. Greenland has expressed its opposition to any change in its sovereignty.
