President Christodoulides: Solution to Encroachment Lies in Cyprus Resolution

President Christodoulides stated that the solution to the illegality of property encroachments in the occupied territories lies in resolving the Cyprus issue, reiterating the need for negotiations. He commented on statements by Turkish Cypriot leader, Tufan Erhurman, regarding alleged property encroachments by Turkish Cypriots in the free areas, emphasizing that the solution must be based on international law and the European acquis. The President called on Turkish Cypriots and Turkey to return to the negotiating table, stressing that resolving the Cyprus issue will address all the illegalities that have existed for 51 years. He expressed confidence that Cyprus can achieve a viable solution without the presence of Turkish troops and guarantees. Furthermore, the President condemned an incident of harassment of Greek Cypriot farmers in the dead zone by the occupation forces, describing it as unacceptable. He stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has contacted the farmer and is in contact with the United Nations and the Cyprus Police. Finally, the President referred to the contradiction between the provocations of the occupation army and the understanding reached during the meeting with the Turkish Cypriot leader to avoid actions that cause tension, stating that he will raise the issue in the next meeting.
