Proposal for Total Ban of Scooters Due to Non-Implementation of Legislation

The new Chairman of the Transport Committee, Alekos Tryfonidis, is resubmitting to the Parliament the proposal of his predecessor, Marinos Mousiouttas, for a total ban of scooters from Cypriot roads. The proposal is based on the non-implementation of relevant legislation and the lack of controls on how they are used. Mr. Tryfonidis stated that if no specific proposal is received from the Ministry of Transport by mid-February regarding the proper use of scooters, a ban will be requested. The proposal was initially submitted by Mr. Mousiouttas, but with his departure from Parliament, resubmission is required. Mr. Tryfonidis supports the ban, as he believes that the uncontrolled use of scooters creates safety problems.
