President Christodoulides: Cyprus Solution is Key to Addressing Property Encroachments, Condemns Attacks on Farmers

President Christodoulides stated that resolving the Cyprus issue is the solution to the illegal appropriation of property in the occupied territories, responding to journalists' questions after a visit to the Filoxenia Conference Centre in Nicosia. He expressed hope that the Turkish Cypriot side will respond to a call for negotiations to address the illegalities that have persisted for 51 years. Referring to statements by Turkish Cypriot leader, Erhurman, regarding potential prosecutions for property encroachments by Turkish Cypriots in free areas, the President reiterated that the Cyprus solution is the only legal remedy, based on international law and the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights. Furthermore, President Christodoulides condemned a recent incident of harassment of Greek Cypriot farmers in the dead zone by the occupying forces, describing it as unacceptable. He stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Cyprus Police, and the United Nations have already been informed, and measures are being taken to ensure the safety of the farmers. The President noted that this incident contradicts the understanding reached during his meeting with the Turkish Cypriot leader to avoid actions that escalate tensions, and he will raise it during their next meeting, aiming to create a suitable climate for the resumption of talks.
