Chile Wildfires: Death Toll Rises as Blazes Continue to Rage

Deadly wildfires continue to rage across southern Chile for a third day, with the situation remaining critical and the emergence of new hotspots complicating firefighting efforts. The death toll has risen to 20, with approximately 1,500 people affected and over 1,000 homes destroyed. Around 350,000 acres of land have been burned, with towns and entire neighborhoods reduced to ashes. Chilean President Gabriel Boric visited the area and emphasized the intensity of the fight against the fires, while warning of new outbreaks in the Araucanía region. The fires, fueled by high temperatures and strong winds, have caused immense devastation, reminding residents of the devastating earthquake and tsunami of 2010.
