Von der Leyen: EU-Mercosur Deal Strengthens Europe in Times of Instability

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen argues that the EU-Mercosur agreement is important for strengthening Europe in a time of instability. The agreement, which has been under negotiation for over a quarter of a century, will create one of the largest trade zones in the world, eliminating billions of euros in tariffs and opening up public procurement markets. Von der Leyen expects the agreement to boost economic growth on both continents, increasing EU exports by 50 billion euros and creating new jobs. She also points out that the agreement will secure Europe's access to critical raw materials for the green and digital transition. The European Parliament will discuss the benefits of the agreement and decide on final approval.
