Danish Prime Minister Visits Greenland Amidst US Acquisition Concerns

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen visited Greenland to demonstrate support for its people following Donald Trump's retreat from threats to acquire the island. The visit came shortly after Trump's meeting with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte in Davos, where they reached an unclear “framework agreement” regarding Greenland. During her visit, Frederiksen met with her Greenlandic counterpart Jens-Frederik Nielsen and walked together through the streets of Nuuk, emphasizing the importance of close cooperation between Denmark and Greenland. Simultaneously, Frederiksen and Rutte agreed on the need to strengthen NATO's presence and deterrence in the Arctic region. The visit is seen as preparation for Denmark's diplomatic response to the United States.
