Hearing Continues for Criminal Prosecutions in the Thanasis Nikolaou Case

The hearing of the private criminal prosecutions filed by the family of Thanasis Nikolaou before the Limassol District Court continued on Thursday, with the main issues being the non-delivery of evidence to the defense and the preliminary objections that the lawyers of the defendants will raise. The next hearing is scheduled for February 19. The forensic doctor Panikos Stavrianos, the former Police Director of Limassol Andreas Iatropoulos, the former head of TAE Limassol Nikos Sofokleous, the former head of the countryside Christakis Nathanail, and the former head of the Lania police station, Christakis Kapiliotis, appeared in court. Mr. Kapiliotis represents himself. The court stressed its intention to prioritize the case, given that the indictment concerns offenses committed in 2005 (39 charges of conspiracy, neglect of duty, perjury, destruction of evidence, and obstruction of justice). The defense emphasized that the deadline for the delivery of evidence has passed and that the non-delivery will affect the exercise of their preliminary objections, especially regarding the fact that the family's lawyer, Savvas Matsas, cannot be a prosecutor due to his previous position as an independent criminal investigator in the Nikolaou case.
