Informal Council on Justice and Home Affairs to be Held in Nicosia

The Informal Council on Justice and Home Affairs will be held in Nicosia on Thursday and Friday, January 22-23, 2026, as part of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU 2026. It is the first Informal Council to be organized during the Cypriot presidency. On Thursday, Ministers and Deputy Ministers for Home Affairs will discuss sustainable return of migrants, their reintegration, and the external dimension of migration. The meeting will be chaired by the Deputy Minister of Migration and International Protection, Nikolaos Ioannidis. The afternoon session will focus on issues related to the Schengen area, chaired by the Minister of Justice and Public Order, Kostas Fytiris. A press conference will be held at the end of the day. On Friday, the Council will focus on Justice issues, such as the fight against economic crime, cross-border protection of cultural heritage, and dealing with juvenile and young offenders. Mr. Fytiris will chair the meeting again, followed by a press conference.
