Alert Over Russian Vessels Detected in the English Channel: British Naval and Air Assets Mobilized

British warships and air assets were mobilized this week to intercept and monitor Russian vessels in the English Channel, as part of increased surveillance operations. The operation lasted two days and involved the patrol vessels HMS Mersey and HMS Severn, as well as a Wildcat helicopter. British assets were deployed to monitor the Russian corvette Boikiy and the tanker MT General Skobelev as they headed towards the North Sea. HMS Mersey was the first to intervene, taking over from allied NATO forces that had already monitored the Russian ships in the Bay of Biscay. Subsequently, HMS Severn and HMS Mersey worked together with the Wildcat helicopter to monitor the Russian ships near the Isle of Wight. Surveillance continued as the ships headed towards the North Sea, with responsibility eventually being transferred to another allied NATO force. At the same time, the United Kingdom provided information support to France for the inspection of a Russian tanker in the Mediterranean, with the participation of HMS Dagger.
