Published January 15, 2026, 21:10

An investigation by Fact Check Cyprus has revealed suspicious patterns in the posts of the X (formerly Twitter) account named 'Emily Thompson,' which disseminated a video that caused political uproar. The research found that many posts are repeated, and the majority of posts from 2025 are re-publications from the same sources, often with the same phrases. Internet security expert Dinos Passtos stated that the account may be automated and connected to a 'bot farm' network, using multiple accounts to re-transmit tweets in order to serve specific goals. The identity of the person behind the 'Emily Thompson' profile remains unknown, with Passtos expressing the opinion that the account may have been created by someone who is not Emily Thompson, simply using a photograph that may not correspond to a real person. Analysis of the profile picture showed an 83% probability of being created using artificial intelligence. Regarding the content of the video, the Mediterranean Observatory of Digital Media did not find any obvious technical traces of manipulation through artificial intelligence. The investigation highlights the need for vigilance and critical thinking regarding content disseminated on social media, as well as the possibility of manipulating public opinion through automated accounts and false identities.
