Three Phone Calls, Emotion, and the Bet of the New Pan-Cyprian Cooperative Bank

The establishment of the New Pan-Cyprian Cooperative Bank is at a critical stage, with the submission of the prospectus to the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CSE) on December 10, 2025. The evaluation process by the CSE is expected to be completed by the end of February 2026, and includes a detailed review and potential questions to the prospectus compilers. This move marks the implementation of a long-term plan for an alternative banking proposal in Cyprus, responding to the need for a fairer and more human-centered approach. The initiative to establish the bank arose from the strong desire of Cypriot citizens, especially the elderly, to maintain and strengthen cooperation as a way of life and support. Three elderly citizens from Limassol, Larnaca and Nicosia contacted the responsible parties, expressing their desire to invest in the bank and pass it on to future generations. The prospectus includes detailed information on the major shareholders holding more than 5% of the bank, namely SODEA Ammochostos, NEA SEVEGEP Astromeritis, ESEL SPOL Limassol and Ioannis Giannakis. The submission of the prospectus is proof of the seriousness of the undertaking and the commitment of those involved to follow the prescribed institutional procedures. In parallel with the CSE evaluation, the working group is preparing the application to the Central Bank of Cyprus, aiming for approval to operate the bank around June 2026. The success of this undertaking will mark a new era for the Cypriot banking sector, offering a sustainable and socially responsible alternative.
