Bloomberg Reveals Trump's Plan for Greenland: US Seeks 'Blank Check' for Military Presence

According to a Bloomberg report, the United States is seeking a full revision of its defense agreement with Denmark, aiming to gain unrestricted access and freedom of movement for military activities in Greenland. Washington wants to remove or weaken the clause requiring consultation and information to Denmark and Greenland before any significant change in military operations. The American side is seeking wording that would ensure complete freedom of movement, without time or operational restrictions. This agreement could de-escalate tensions in transatlantic relations, but raises concerns about the sovereignty of Denmark and Greenland. Donald Trump has stated that there is a “framework for a future agreement” and that within two weeks he will make it clear whether Copenhagen has given its consent. According to Trump, the agreement will allow the US to have “full military access” to Greenland “without end and without time limit”.
