Cyprus Prepares for EU Presidency: A Calendar of Key Events

Cyprus is preparing to assume the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2026, with a series of important events and visits from high-ranking officials scheduled. The official inauguration ceremony will take place on Wednesday, with the presence of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. The discussion on Ukraine's accession to the EU will be at the heart of the Presidency. Also planned are meetings of EU finance ministers (ECOFIN and EUROGROUP), an informal European Council with the participation of the 27 EU leaders, and an informal council of foreign ministers. The President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, is expected to invite Turkish President Erdogan and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to these meetings.
